FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Straightforward answers about our remodeling process, pricing, scheduling, and what to expect when you work with us.

What types of remodeling projects do you take on?

Legacy Building & Remodeling specializes in residential remodeling and improvement projects, including bathroom remodels, flooring, carpentry, drywall and finishing, trim, built-ins, fireplace updates, painting, and other interior renovations.

We focus on projects where quality workmanship, proper preparation, and attention to detail matter. If you’re unsure whether your project is a good fit, send us the details and we’ll let you know.

What areas do you serve?

We serve homeowners throughout Columbus and surrounding Central Ohio communities.

Project location, scope, scheduling, and local licensing or permit requirements are considered when determining whether a project is a good fit.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Legacy Building & Remodeling LLC is fully insured and holds a City of Columbus Home Improvement Contractor License, HIC03675.

Licensing and permit requirements can vary by municipality and project type. When additional licensing, permits, or specialized trade work are required, those requirements are addressed as part of the project planning process.

Who will actually be working in my home?

Legacy Building & Remodeling is an owner-operated company. You’ll work directly with the owner throughout your project rather than being sold a project by one person and handed off to an entirely different team afterward.

Additional skilled labor and trusted specialty contractors may be used when the scope of the project requires them.

Do you use subcontractors?

Yes, when the project requires specialized trades or additional expertise.

Depending on the scope, that may include licensed electricians, plumbers, HVAC contractors, glass installers, cabinetmakers, or other specialty professionals. We coordinate those portions of the work so the project stays organized and responsibilities are clear.

Do you provide written proposals?

Yes. Before work begins, you’ll receive a written proposal outlining the agreed scope of work, pricing, allowances when applicable, payment schedule, and important project-specific details or exclusions.

We believe expectations should be clear before construction begins—not figured out halfway through the project.

How does your pricing work?

Every project is priced according to its actual scope, materials, labor, complexity, and the level of preparation required to complete the work properly.

Our goal is not to be the lowest bidder. We would rather provide a realistic price up front than cut corners to win a project or rely on avoidable charges later.

For projects involving unknown conditions or work that cannot reasonably be priced in advance, we may recommend a time-and-materials structure instead of guessing at a fixed price.

How do deposits and payments work?

Larger projects typically require a deposit to reserve time on our schedule and begin ordering materials.

Additional payments may be tied to project milestones or progress, with the final balance due according to the terms of your proposal.

Your exact payment schedule will be clearly outlined before the project begins.

Do you handle permits?

Permit requirements vary depending on the project and the municipality where the work is being performed.

When permits or inspections are required, responsibility for obtaining them will be determined during project planning and clearly outlined in the proposal before work begins.

How long will my project take?

Project timelines vary depending on the scope of work, material lead times, inspections, specialty trades, and any conditions discovered once construction begins.

Before your project starts, we’ll discuss the anticipated schedule and major phases of the work. Our goal is to keep the project moving efficiently without sacrificing the preparation or workmanship required to do it correctly.

What happens if you uncover unexpected problems?

Remodeling sometimes reveals conditions that could not reasonably be seen during the original estimate, such as water damage, improper previous work, electrical or plumbing issues, damaged framing, or other hidden conditions.

If something outside the original scope is discovered, we’ll explain what we found, discuss the recommended solution, and address any change in scope or cost before proceeding whenever reasonably possible.

Can I purchase my own materials?

In many cases, yes.

Homeowner-supplied materials can work well for certain finish selections. However, we may recommend supplying particular products ourselves when sizing, compatibility, lead times, warranty requirements, or installation specifications are important.

Material responsibilities will be established before the project begins so there is no confusion once work is underway.

How do you protect my home during construction?

We take reasonable steps to protect the surrounding areas of your home during the project, including floor protection, dust control, containment, and regular cleanup as appropriate for the work being performed.

Remodeling is still construction, but your home should be treated with care throughout the process.

Do you warranty your work?

Yes. Legacy Building & Remodeling stands behind the workmanship we provide. Warranty coverage varies depending on the work performed and the products involved, and applicable warranty information is addressed as part of the project agreement.

How far in advance should I contact you?

The earlier, the better—especially for larger remodeling projects.

Scheduling can vary depending on current workload, project size, material lead times, custom products, and specialty-trade availability. Reaching out early gives us more time to properly plan the project rather than rushing into it.
